Music therapy and auditory integration in North Wales

Music moves, enchants, energizes and heals.

On a subconscious level music can alter the heartbeat and breathing to relax or energize. It can be experienced and enjoyed by all people regardless of age, music ability or intellect. As such music is a powerful and versatile tool for use with people with special needs and can be used to help improve:

Listening

Memory

Concentration

Coordination

Spatial awareness

Self-esteem

Relaxation

Social skills

Fine and gross motor skills

For persons on the autistic spectrum music can help interrupt patterns of isolation and social withdrawal and improve eye contact, language development and reduce sound sensitivity.

John Garbutt is an independent music therapist and hypnotherapist based in North Wales . Formerly musician in residence with Leicestershire NHS Psychiatric Services he set up Panacea Music Company in 1999 to develop a therapeutic music service in North Wales and the North West.
